MARKET NEWS for this Saturday, November 22

One More Time

Sure, winter roared into town this week with our first sustained cold snap of the season, so it's reassuring to see that relatively balmy temps will be back in time for the weekend and this Saturday's Pre-Thanksgiving Farmers Market! Time to toss aside your Snuggie and head out to what should be an excellent opportunity to stock up for your Thanksgiving feast. After a couple weeks off, this Pre-Thanksgiving Market is the last full (9 am to 1 pm) market of the year, and the only market appearance until the once-monthly Winter Markets start up in December. More on that later.

In the meantime, let's go over who we have lined up for this Saturday. It should be a busy market, so if there's a specific item that you absolutely need to have, why not reach out to your favorite vendor ahead of time with a call or email to make sure you get what you need. This is who's coming, weekly and non-weekly vendors combined: 1732 Meats, Amazing Acres Goat Dairy, Avenue Deli, Bonnie's Wondergardens, Chez Bonser Patisserie, Creative Shepherd Farm, doTerra Body Products, Freeland Market, Fruitwood Farms, Golden Valley Farms Coffee Roasters, Jerome's European Breads, Livengood Family Farm, The Mistress of Spice, MoJo's Pop Co., MyHouse Cookies, Neil’s Sharpening Service, North Star Orchard, Paradocx Vineyards, Penns Woods Winery, Regency Café, Relishing Grannies, Ridge Valley Farm, Schober Orchards, Seventh Avenue Grill, Spotted Hill Farm, Take Me Bake Me/Mompops, Taste Artisanal Market, Vera Pasta, Waffatopia and Wilson's Curiously Good Foods.

Thanks for Giving

Veterans Day may have already happened, but Schoeber's Orchards is extending their thanks to those who served with a special offer at this week's market. If you're a military veteran, stop by the Schoeber's stand for a free bag of apples or half-gallon of apple cider.

Newsletter Note

Along with the end of the full Market season, this week's newsletter marks the final correspondence from us under the Fresh Picks banner. However, if you're a subscriber, you'll still continue to get updated on local happenings approximately every other week in the Discover Lansdowne newsletter, starting soon. For now, take a look at the slate of upcoming arts, culture, and community activities taking place in and around Lansdowne and join in the fun.

Tonight: Harmonious Wail

Get an early start to the weekend tonight when the Lansdowne Folk Club presents an evening with Harmonious Wail at a 7:30 pm performance at the Twentieth Century Club. Over a 20-year history, the band has gained a following for its folky, jazzy, and eclectic sounds and consistently wows audiences with its brand of "gypsy swing." Tickets ($20 day of show) are available at the venue; doors open at 7 pm. The next Folk Club show takes place just two weeks later, when the Rev. TJ McGlinchey brings his Holiday Special to the Twentieth Century Club on December 4. Call (484) 466-6213 or email for more information.

A Bit of This, A Bit of That

Thanksgiving is a week away, which means we're just over a week away from the LEDC's Annual Bit of the Arts Holiday Show and Sale. This event features an overwhelming array of goods from dozens of vendors selling items they've created themselves -- paintings, glasswork, sculpture, jewelry, photographs -- you name it! Not only a sight for the eyes, there will also be plenty of aural stimulation with a full schedule of live music throughout the two-day affair. Admission is free. The show is Friday, November 28, 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and Saturday, November 29, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the Twentieth Century Club is at 84 S. Lansdowne Avenue (which you really should know by now). Remember that shopping local is an awesome thing to do, especially since its Small Business Saturday. Learn more.

Tree Lighting December 6

Come on out for hot beverages, musical performances, the award winning Penn Wood Marching Band, the lighting of the holiday tree, and a special visit by Santa himself (the real one!) in the heart of Lansdowne's central business district. Events will be held in the municipal parking lot across the street from the Lansdowne Theater. Sponsored by the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association, the festivities begin at 6:30 pm.

Winter Market Schedule

As promised, here's details for the 2014-15 Winter Markets, taking place on the third Saturday of each month at the usual market location. Winter Markets are a more concise two-hour affair, from 9 to 11 am, so be there on time on the following Saturdays, rain, snow, or shine: December 20, January 17, February 21, March 21, and April 18. Check our upcoming newsletters for more info as each market approaches.
